Temecula, CA (March 15, 2011) – 8-time race champion and Traxxas/Red Bull athlete, Mitchell DeJong, is back to his winning ways after grabbing two wins in his Pro Buggy Unlimited during Rounds 1 & 2 of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Regional Series at Glen Helen Raceway.
Coming off a spectacular 2011 modified kart season, Mitchell’s off-season was short as he prepared to step into the Pro class to drive the faster Pro Buggy Unlimited. By the time the Traxxas/Red Bull Pro Buggy was ready to go for the 2012 LOORRS Regional Series, there were only 2 test sessions available to learn how to drive the much bigger race car! Apparently it didn’t matter, maybe it was the thousands of Rally miles behind the game console, or the inifinite laps of iRacing, but Mitchell strapped into the Pro Buggy for his first practice and began turning similar lap times of the top two racers in his class. Not bad, considering the modified kart only had simplified hand shifting, and the Pro Buggy adds a few new elements to keep track of like, turning brakes, foot pedal clutch, H-Pattern shifting and open wheels.
Since that first practice in February, Mitchell hasn’t looked back as he qualified top in class for both races, won both main events, and set a new track record of 47.6 seconds during the Round 2 main event , besting the previous record by 0.3 seconds.
Speaking of gaming, Mitchell will be in Orlando, Florida for the Red Bull LAN event. An invitation only event where 15 of the worlds top gamers will be in intense training sessions and team building exercises to become the best gamers in the world. Mitchell will be learning more about the digital phenoms and of course, he plans to shred some rubber on the kart track with the group.
After a quick 24-hour stay, Mitchell will fly to Arizona this Friday for the opening round of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Arizona Regional Series where he will tear up the dirt in search of his third consecutive 2012 victory.
The 2012 season is off to a fast start, and the support for Mitchell has never been greater, thanks to Traxxas, Red Bull, DeJong Off Road, Fox Racing Shox, Method Race Wheels, California Performance, Kroyer Engines, Simpson, K&N, Replay XD, Racer X, Schampa and PayDirt Media.
