Lake Elsinore, California (December 19, 2009) The world’s top off road racing champion, Rob MacCachren, came into the ROCKSTAR Energy Lucas Oil Challenge Cup event with high hopes, even though he had never before driven an inch of the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex off road race track.

MacCachren was stacked up against the biggest names in off road racing for this one-day off road mega extravaganza.  After 16 grueling laps, Rob MacCachren was crowned the Unlimited Pro 2 Grand Champion!

The Southern California weather cooperated nicely as high 70-degree temperatures adorned the packed grandstands for this first-ever, ROCKSTAR Energy Lucas Oil Challenge Cup.

It just happens to be that ROCKSTAR Energy Drink’s premier racer is the one and only, Rob MacCachren.  Known to the motorsports world as “Rob Mac,” he spent the majority of the day entertaining fans and mingling in the pits.  However, what the 5,000 fans came to see was the action on the racetrack and as soon as the clock struck 2:00 p.m., the ROCKSTAR MAC Attack was unleashed!

This was a day in which the motorsports world would witness a combined 20,000 horsepower racing around the track at the same time.  It’s been done before, but not on a “short” closed course track such as Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex. In fact, the field was full with a whopping 28 off road race trucks.

On Friday, MacCachren qualified his ROCKSTAR Ford F-150 Pro 2 in the second position and with the LOORS mandated four-truck inversion, that put the 2009 TORC Pro 2 Champion on the outside of row two.

With the drop of the green flag, the #21 ROCKSTAR Ford F150 charged down the front stretch and railed along the outside of the #3 Todd LeDuc in the first turn.  However, the two racers battled door-to-door in a series of turns, while neither giving up an inch of space.  The action was stifling as the Unlimited Pro 4 trucks began to make their moves through the middle of the Pro 2 field as fiberglass blasted apart and chromoly tube was bent in half.

The battle up front was certainly the main event as Bryce Menzies joined in the fray with LeDuc and MacCachren.  The on-course mayhem was entertaining, but the shear driving precision of the top three racers was more impressive than ever.

The mandatory yellow flag came out at lap eight and the field of trucks was tightened up; but as the green flag dropped for the second time, the nation’s top three Pro 2 trucks pulled away from the rest of the pack.

MacCachren pushed the #21 Ford just off the edge of the rear bumper of race leader through each turn and as the two trucks headed into the first turn of the final lap, LeDuc miscued and Rob Mac seized the opportunity taking the lead.

The rest is history as the veteran off road racing champion cut turns around the track in the clean air and charged his ROCKSTAR Ford F150 to the checkers earning the victory.

Climbing from his Mastercraft Safety 3G race seat MacCachren commented, “Wow, what a race!  I just kept the pressure on every lap and in the end the race came to us.  There were two keys to today’s victory.  One was the preparation of this ROCKSTAR Energy Ford F150 led by crew chief, Jim Blackmore, and the second was the performance of our BFGoodrich Tires.  The tires were absolutely perfect.  BFGoodrich Tires engineers have been working with us all season long and I can’t give enough thanks to BFGoodrich Tires for their support and dedication in providing us racers with the best product on the track.”

“There are many components of the ROCKSTAR Energy Racing team and we couldn’t continue to perform at this level without the passion and dedication of each component.  From sponsors to manufacturers to volunteers, it’s a complete team effort and this win is dedicated to all those people that have worked tirelessly all season long.”

Saturday afternoon’s victory puts the exclamation point on Rob MacCachren’s 2009 off road racing season.  A season in which he earned two season championships, one in the TORC Pro 2 Series and the other in the SNORE Desert Series, where he claimed the OVERALL Championship.

The victory at the ROCKSTAR Energy Lucas Oil Challenge Cup marks MacCachren’s 165th first place win.  Rob has earned 19 Off Road Racing Championships over his 28-year racing career.

Afterwards, Rob commented, “I’ve got 20 more years of racing in me and the 2010 season starts in 3 weeks at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.  Merry Christmas to everyone!”
